You have made the decision, and you have come to the conclusion that a gap year is for you because you want to experience everything life has to offer. Good choice! But, now comes the hard part – deciding what you are going to do for your gap year.
There are lots of choices to pick from, but which one is right for you. It all depends on your personality and what you want to take from the experience. Here are the options and the people that they may suit.

Travel
The most convenient option is to spend a year travelling the world and seeing all the sights and attractions. There is no better way to broaden your horizons than to visit foreign countries and witness their culture first hand. Travelling is also for people who want to take time off from their studies and relax.
If you are entering a three-year university course, you may be in constant education from the age of four. That is fourteen years up until the start point, and seventeen years by the finish. It is a long time, so you may want to a break and forget about life for a while.
Teach A Foreign Language Abroad
Other people may want to experience the world, but they may also want to work. After all, travelling non-stop for a year is demanding. Teaching a foreign language abroad is a fantastic compromise because you can work and earn money, but it is also a very relaxed environment.
Plus, it is a great way to gain experience later on in life, and it looks good on your resume with potential employers. All you have to do is take a course, pass, and then organise the trip. There are companies that organize it for you, such as Maximo Nivel TEFL , or you can do it of your accord.
Volunteer
Maybe you just want to help those that are less fortunate than you? Helping others is very commendable as it can make all the difference to their lives. Plus, it also makes you feel good about yourself in the process. Again, there are programs that will organize a trip to a lesser developed part of the world.
Once there, you can help build wells or construct buildings for local villages. Or, what about volunteering abroad with animals if you prefer. Helping a living creature doesn’t mean you have to help one species because everyone on the planet needs help. For the conservationists among you, these two options are perfect.
Pursue Your Passion
Whatever you love in life, pursue it now before it is too late. Life is short, and before you know it you will have commitments that will prevent you from following your dreams. A gap year is the best time to experience the life you want, and to see whether it is the life for your future.
A gap year is an amazing experience, so make sure you take the time to do everything you want to in life. Have you ever taken a gap year?
I never went to university so I never had the chance of a gap year I went straight into work. There is a lot of very useful information here to help 🙂
Never had a gap year but wish I had. You have the rest of your life to pay rent/mortgage and bills so make the most of being free for a year.
Great ideas. I’ve always liked the idea of learning a new language
Me too! It’s a good reason to do more travelling as well 😉 my memory isn’t great though, eek! Plenty of practicing!!xx
