After a busy couple of weeks, it feels somewhat surreal to be back at the keyboard again. O and I decided to beat the January blues by booking an impromptu getaway to a beautiful log cabin set in the forest in Herodsfoot – an excellent place to visit if you want to get away from it all.
Our Silver Birch cabin was tucked away deep in the forest, yet close to the coast. I’d read on trip advisor everyone recommending to choose your own cabin, but as it was our first time at Deerpark, we didn’t know any better. Luck was on our side and we were allocated, what we thought, was the best lodge in the forest. The lodge was well positioned close to reception, out of view from neighbours with astonishing views of the woodland and lake. I can safely say that timber frame homes are now on my dream list.
The private hot tub was checked everyday and was one of many of my favourite parts of our break. It was amazing to unwind in, gaze at the stars and listen to the owls with a glass of wine in the evening. Equally, just as relaxing in the day surrounded by the crisp trees towering over the lake.
Located 30 miles from Polperro and Looe, there are some stunning beaches worth visiting nearby, not to mention the stunning woodland to explore in Deerpark. The site was perfect and the staff were just incredibly friendly and helpful – you can even get little extras delivered to your cabin such as pizzas, curry’s, cream teas.
There is no mobile phone signal and the only emergency phone is at reception (however, there is free wifi in the retreat if you need it!). It took a little getting used to, but we loved this – it’s a true escape from every day life. If you want to spend quality time with your loved ones in beautiful surroundings, then this is for you. I could not recommend it highly enough.
In a nutshell: Our 4 nights flew by,
I fell in love with Deerpark.
