Think Green

Go 50 shades of green this year with olive cushions, jade rugs and emerald curtains. Be bold and combine colours that would normally clash – it will give your home a ‘revitalising change’ according to Harpers Bazaar.  Throw brighter shades on the walls then use subtle greens with brass or white furniture for a vibrant and seriously stylish living room. Add green to your bathroom with plants and lime towels or go for forest green walls if you’ve got a wooden bathroom suite. For your kitchen, play it safe with classic country home shabby-chic mint or be daring and throw together neon green and turquoise – the possibilities are endless!

Embrace the elements

Nature and the elements are central to harmonious living: cosy fires, plants, stone walls, water features and floor to ceiling windows will all allow you to feel at one with Mother Earth. Welcome daylight in with folding doors for natural light by day; then gather round a stove fire for warm, Hygge-filled vibes by night. And once you’re done bringing the outdoors inside why not take the indoors outside by upcycling old furniture into garden tables and chairs or think big and create a day bed or swing

Throwback themes

Not a fan of minimalism? We’ve got good news: 2017 is the year of the throwback. Whether you’re a fan of the 50s, 60s or 70s, there’s opportunity to inject your home with groovy rugs, velvet armchairs and of course vinyl record players with vintage items at the click of a button thanks to the likes of Etsy. The Independent claims the seventies will be the biggest influence in 2017 with bold prints, flower power and over-the-top sideboards topping the list. So whether you plan on going full retro or are just looking for a few statement pieces of furniture, you can always rely on a little vintage thrift to add character to your home.

Marble and Brass

Is your home perfectly matched or do you prefer to play around with patterns and prints? Whether you love to match or clash, consider combining marble and brass. Marble kitchen units topped with brass utensils, marble bathtubs with brass taps and feet and marble tables with brass legs can all add a stylish touch to your home. What’s more, they work with every colour; team with dark blues and greens for sophistication, pinks and whites for an airy, fresh feel or set them against stone walls for an old-age, Grecian kind of look.

Add texture

Looking to shake things up but can’t face a big paint job? Try adding different textures to a room: faux fur rugs, velvet chairs, leather trunks, satin cushions, the list is endless. This works best in rooms with plain, light walls as the textures and colours will stand out more. Want to add even more variety? Play around with shapes and sizes – think big chandeliers and oversized pictures –to transform your home into an Instagram wonderland.
