Having a tonne of clutter in your home is bad for so many reasons. Firstly, it makes it a nightmare to keep tidy. Secondly, it can actually mess with your mind. Cluttered houses can lead to cluttered brains. Which means you’ll be less organised, less productive, and less positive.
However, the thought of de-cluttering can make many of us run a mile. If you think that it’s too much hard work to tackle, then I’ve got some solutions to help you along. Since I’ve moved house it’s given me the perfect opportunity to have a good clear out!
One Room at a Time
The worst thing you can do is attempt to take on the whole house at once. You’ll end up with stuff everywhere! And you’ll be more likely to give up. Divide the whole task up into more manageable chunks. Say to yourself you’ll de-clutter one room every weekend. If you’ve got a few small rooms to tackle then attempt more than one each time. Write a to-do list of which rooms you’re going to do and when. Doing one room at a time will make decluttering your home so much easier.
Bags and Boxes
When you first start getting organised, you’ll want to put everything into piles. Have a tonne of black bags and plastic boxes at the ready. There’s no point making piles in the middle of the floor, as it will just make it harder to move around. Use black bags for any rubbish or items that are going in the attic. You can even throw in clothes that are going to charity shops. Use the boxes for stuff you want to keep and need to find a new home for. You can then look into some proper storage solutions when the time comes.
I’ve invested in these adorable storage baskets for inside my wardrobe because they compact right down when I don’t need them. Perfect for storage extra blankets and throws that only needs to be pulled out during the winter!
Get Some Help
If you have a big property to de-clutter then you might want to consider roping in some help. You could hire the services of a house clearance company, like these guys https://www.junkme.co.uk/house-clearance-manchester/ Alternatively, ask your friends and family to give you a hand. If you have housemates, then they should do their bit as well. Turn it into a bit of fun and promise a couple of drinks afterwards. You’ll be surprised how many people are willing to help out if there’s a glass of wine at the end.
Be Brutal
If you’re a little bit of a hoarder then de-cluttering can seem like a daunting task. However, if you really want to get things sorted, then you’re going to need to be brutal. This means throwing out that old newspaper you were keeping for the pictures. Or, at least putting the photos in a scrapbook. Most things people hoard can easily be thrown or given away. If you want to live in a peaceful and minimalist property, then don’t be sentimental. It’s okay to keep those items that mean a lot, just find a way of storing them.
These top tips will make it far easier and quicker to declutter your home. When you’re finished, you’ll be surprised at what a difference it can make. Remember to reward yourself with something nice for the home, as well done. No more clutter, however!
